LIFE CYCLE:
Overwinter as adult females on or beneath host. They become active in early spring. Several generations are produced per year.
MONITORING:
Follow monitoring instructions for European red mite.
HOSTS:
Apple and pear.
COMMENTS:
McDaniel spider mites closely resemble twospotted spider mites except for the presence of several small black spots toward the rear of the mite. Both species have two black spots on each side of the body. The eggs of both species are indistinguishable from each other. Predatory mite eggs are also white, but are larger and ovoid.
BODY LENGTH:
Adult - 0.4 mm; Mature nymph - 0.35 mm.
